Story behind the print:

On Jun 26th, 27th, and 28th of 2021, heat records were broken across Washington, Oregon, and British Colombia, in an event now known as the Pacific Northwest Heatdome. On the 28th of June, my 39th birthday, thousands of people died across the PNW from heat, and many of those people died alone and at home. Our relatives, the sea creatures and animals and plants, also suffered terribly in the Heatdome event, including billions of marine invertebrates (like the edible mussel), that dies during the event - literally cooking inside of their shells.

This piece is a memory and recognition of our coastline relatives, with whom we share so many similarities and interconnections. Mussels are beautiful, complex, delicious, and precious - their deaths are meaningful too, and will have a long term impact on coast food webs and ecosystems for years to come.
